Our History

October 26, 2019

Pegah High School was established by Hafizullah Abram, Habibullah Maher, Mohammad Nasir Saadat Neya, Najib Soroush, Anwar Haidari, Mohammad Ali Bakhshi and Abuzar Royesh in March of 2015.

The school officially started its educational programs with 22 staff and 170 students ranging between grades 1 to 9 in district 3 of Kabul city, the current building for our Intermediate 2 branch, on April of 2015. Other than educational programs, the library was our only operative sector. It had around 500 books, more than 85% of which were either rentals or gifted by others. During this year, we also started to develop schools’ and students’ handbooks, school’s organizational structure, and also define our long-term vision for our work.

By the end of the 2015 academic year and receiving the ministry of education’s approval in March 2016, the school extended its program from intermediate to high school in a new building in Pole Khosh in district 13 of Kabul city. In 2016, Pegah had a total of 37 staff and nearly 80 students in its both branches. It was a challenging year for everyone. More than 85% of students had newly joined Pegah. They each came from different social and academic backgrounds. Also, more than 70% of our faculty and staff were, too, new; they barely knew about our vision and approaches. As a result, the school started to offer different workshops and seminars focused on teaching methods, classroom management, and psychology for its teachers. The administrative staff also finalized the school’s educational and administrative plans and shared it with its faculties and staff. These programs helped Pegah to start the new academic year with an increased rate of 20% in its students’ and teachers’ admission.

In 2017, the school started to publish its own textbooks in subjects like Dari for grades 1-6, Civic Education for grades 7-10, and Math for grades 1-4. At the same time, the school signed a partnership deal with Khodadad Hussaini to launch Pegah Language Academy.

Currently, Pegah is finishing its fifth year and is operating with 83 staff and 1200 students in three branches for grades 1-12. Students have the option to participate in variety of outside school programs not only in Pegah but also our partner organizations. Our library has nearly about 7000 books and more than 90% are educational resources for both teachers and students. We also have our science and computer labs in order to help students build their practical skills. All our staff and faculty have at least earned university degrees in their field and have an average of five years teaching experience in their background.
